The term "Web 2.0" is commonly associated with web applications which facilitate
interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design and collaboration
on the World Wide Web.
Examples of Web 2.0 include web-based communities, hosted services, web applications,
social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, mashups and folksonomies.
A Web 2.0 site allows its users to interact with other users or to change website
content, in contrast to non-interactive websites where users are limited to the
passive viewing of information that is provided to them.
Web 2.0 websites allow users to do more than just retrieve information.
They can build on the interactive facilities of "Web 1.0" to provide "Network as
platform" computing, allowing users to run software-applications entirely through
a browser.
Users can own the data on a Web 2.0 site and exercise control over that data.
These sites may have an "Architecture of participation" that encourages users to
add value to the application as they use it.
This stands in contrast to traditional websites, the sort that limited visitors
to viewing and whose content only the site's owner could modify.
Web 2.0 sites often feature a rich, user-friendly interface based on Ajax, Silverlight
or Flash.
